Tim Cook by Leander Kahney

Hey there, this is GKR.
Right after reading the book Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson, I was inspired by two other people mentioned in that book. One was Jony Ive and the other was Tim Cook.

Fortunately, I had bought Tim Cook's book while purchasing my top ten books about CEOs. I gave it a read and here are my thoughts on it.
Tim Cook is great. I don't know if he is famous in India but he is great. Being an Indian, especially a person from Chennai, whenever people asked me who was my favourite CEO I would give them only one answer "Sundar Pichai"

It was not a wrong fact though, I did like Sundar Pichai. But then, this guy named Leander Kahney made me wonder if Sundar Pichai was really the best CEO of our times. This book portrays how and why Tim Cook is the right successor for Steve Jobs in every aspect.
The foremost point is that he is the complete opposite of Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs was a creator, innovator, whereas Tim Cook is the right guy for handling business and problem solving which are the tasks a CEO should handle.

Here is why I like Tim Cook more than any other current-generation CEOs.

  1. Tim Cook follows ethics. You will understand what I mean when you read this book. Steve Jobs never had the urge to follow ethics but Tim is different.
  2. Cook publicly announced that he was gay, just because he could inspire all the bullied gay people to stand up and face the world. As I said, it was one of his ethics to make sure the world was united avoiding racism, untouchability etc.
  3. Cook follows a routine and is a workaholic. He wakes up sharp at 4 AM every day, responds to mail, hits the gym, works all day and sleeps sharply at 8:45 PM.
  4. Cook took Apple from a profitable company to the most profitable trillion-dollar company in just a few years.
  5. Tim Cook believes in making the world truly a better place. He even made Apple products 100% renewable and made sure they use renewable energy in all factories. Apple is one of the most eco-friendly companies in the world.

There is a lot more about Tim Cook that I like but I will leave it to you to read his book and figure out why he is the best CEO of the current-generation. A must-read book for every business enthusiast and Apple fans.

Disappointing Biographies

Hey there, this is GKR . I love both Sundar Pichai and Satya Nadella and so I wanted to know more about their childhood and their passions. I just completed reading the so-called biography of Satya Nadella by Jagmohan S.Bhanver. The book is titled "Nadella - The changing face of Microsoft." But the book talks more about Steve Balmer than Nadella.  Satya Nadella is indeed a guy who prefers a private life but the facts in the book are too general that we can read in Wikipedia. This is not a review blog but I can say for sure that this book is not worth the time and money. The same author has also written the book "Pichai - The future of Google." This book is about Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet. This book has some valuable information about the man himself but still lacks the same flow of the read. It starts with great information about his childhood but then suddenly dives into the lives of other Google employees and founders of Google r...

E-books versus Paperbacks

Hey there, this is GKR . There is always a dilemma for beginners if they should buy a book as a paperback or buy a Kindle device to read the books as E-books. I prefer paperbacks. It is fun to hold the book in your hand while reading. It feels real. But it also comes with some disadvantages like cost, weight etc. Let me brief you about my experience in using Kindle for reading and buying paperbacks for reading. Advantages of Paperbacks: You get the feel of actually reading and completing the book. Turning pages feels like a reward. Paperback books smell good. It boosts your motivation to read more. Does not require batteries or electricity to read These books if preserved well will be with you in your library for a lifetime. Advantages of Kindle/E-reader: It is small and convenient It can hold thousands of books Books are cheaper Easy to take your device while on travel Easy to read in low light Paperbacks take up a lot of space whereas Kindle ...

Books versus Films

Hey there, this is GKR . In this era, people who watch films and series are more than that of the people who read books. Game of Thrones and Harry Potter has more viewers as a Film and Series but has fewer readers comparatively as book series. Why is this difference important? It is important because people do not understand how books can change their lives. They do not understand how books can create an impact on how they live, how they work and how they die. Let me give you an insight. Disadvantages of watching a film adaptation of novels: It destroys your imagination There is a lot of detailing in books than in films/series. Lots of character flaws can be found in films as they have less time to get deeper into character emotions You get to spend less time with the characters and the story Technical flaws in the film/series might make the story fail. For example if the visual effects are not par with the imagination of the original author then it fails. There is ...
